What money can’t buy - Day 51
Here are 4 things more important to me than money:
Happiness
Autonomy
Experiences
Time
I’m not here to tell you that money isn’t everything. I don’t believe it can buy happiness but it sure can help. Money is a necessity and it’s not a bad thing to want to make good money. But in almost 31 years I’ve learned a few things I would take over money any day.
Happiness - again I must reiterate that money can help with this. It decreases stress and provides opportunity. Although sometimes more money = more problems. Ultimately happiness is when what you say, think and do is in alignment. I’d rather enjoy my life broke than be rich and miserable.
Autonomy - I learned this the hard way. Being in jobs and living in places where I felt restricted. Ironically money can also help with this, but for me it means being in control. Getting to do what I want when I want. The freedom of being an entrepreneur! Now I don’t think you have to own your own business to find this, but if your current job can’t give you flexibility I bet there is one that can.
Experiences - Getting to try and see new things increases happiness and is possible with autonomy. It’s good for the soul. Money helps ;)
Time - Work less and play more. I’ve been fortunate to grow up with many things and opportunities. And yet I’d live a simpler life in a minute to have control of my day. I’ve worked jobs before where I felt like a slave. 7 days a week with no time for me, to do the things that fill me up or be with the people I love.
