Scary & Exciting - Day 28

It’s a Friday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma and there’s a crowd of 10,000 people gathering at the local civic center for this much anticipated event. It’s the first live recording of a Ted Talk in this town and the match up of speakers is out of this world.

Thirty minutes until show time and the main two speakers are chatting in the back. These are both up and coming starts and this is the first Ted Talk of their careers.

One turns to the other and says “I’m so nervous”.

Speaker 2: “Oh really? What sensations do you feel in the body?”

Speaker 1: “I’ve got a pit in my stomach, my heart is racing and my palms are sweaty.”

Speaker 2: “Wow that’s interesting! I have the same feelings but I’m excited.”

The magical thing is to the body, nervousness and excitement are the same. It’s up to you to decide what emotion is tied to that! You get to craft the narrative based on how you approach on opportunity.

If you are afraid of failing = nervous.

Grateful for this opportunity = excited.

And remember it’s also okay to be BOTH. Nervous and excited.
