Snow Day -Day 48
As a kid who grew up in Florida I’ll never forget my first snow day. It was somewhere between Wyoming and Montana and it was literal magic. I remember boarding the plane in Orlando and I was so excited that I wore my ski bib, boots and a turtle neck on the plane. It only took 30 minutes into the flight to start sweating.
There are few things in life where the anticipation matches the real life event. We were driving from the airpot as the snow started falling from the sky. So we pulled over to the side of the road, got out and danced in pure joy in the snow.
It’s pretty indescribable when you have never experienced anything like this. Fast forward to living in Colorado just shy of a decade and I’ve had countless now days. Sooner than you think the novelty wears off and instead of magic it becomes an inconvenience. What wants brought a smile to your face now brings annoyance.
There’s two lessons here:
The first to be present and aware of how good the day to day of life is even when we forget it… a.k.a. gratitude.
The second is the power of novelty. It literally makes time stop it’s so powerful. It like food for our soul and changes our outlook on life for the better. Yet the older we get the less we seek out new thing and experiences in life.
So if you want to optimize your energy I suggest we lean into this two lessons.
Practice Gratitude & Chase Novelty.
