The Power of Planning -Day 44
The problem most people have around time management, scheduling, productivity and simply getting shit done is they don’t plan!
I know it seems to simple, but hear me out.
This subject of scheduling & time management is by far the biggest obstacle for all of my clients. This ranges from 25 year old millennials in grad school to 60 year old financial advisors looking to retire. The point is everyone struggles.
It’s not totally our fault. We live in a world that is constantly stimulating us with distractions and pulling is in new directions. Our attention plans have plummeted over the past 10 years.
But the common denominator is everyone who thinks they scheduling things out actually don’t. It’s in their head or they aren’t scheduling the things that matter.
First of all give it a try and if after a month of going all in you don’t see positive results send me an email and I’ll buy you a coffee! (taylor@taylorsleaford.com).
The key is scheduling everything throughout your day. Wake up, breakfast, drive to work, emails, projects, workouts, date night, an hour to do nothing for your sanity (can I get an amen!?). Yup that’s right we are going to schedule everything! It’s not just about the work tasks.
For one it makes sure you have a day and time to get it done and it helps with peace of mind on Tuesday knowing that something is planned to get finished on Friday. You see most people leave too much room in their schedule and that leads to filling it with wasteful stuff like scrolling social media or getting distracted. When you don’t know what your plan is for a day, morning or hour of your day you waste time.
Next it helps us track our time. This is a fluid process and it will take some practice to get the hang of it. But you will quickly realize you have way more time than you realize, you just haven’t been using it efficiently.
You see in this category discipline actually equals freedom.
So what have you got to lose? Try scheduling EVERYTHING for a month and let me know how it goes. Oh and yes it has to be written down or it doesn’t count!
