What Authentic Leaders Do Different -Day 59
The most effective thing you can do as a leader is have empathy and respect. When giving feedback, having a discussion or arguing a point of view these two words are the ammunition to know only understand your counterpart, but also get them to understand you.
Empathy allows you to understand their perspective and where they are coming from. Seeing their perspective doesn’t mean you have to agree, but their point of view is valid.
Respect allows you to show compassion. This is crucial with giving negative feedback, holding people accountable or handling disagreements. When you have respect for each other it keeps things from getting hostile.
The next time you are in one of these scenarios show empathy and respect. Also notice whether you are being given the same. If not, how would it have been different?
